Reckless Recap: 10/1/15 Cubs 5/Reds 3 "WCRP in Cincinnati"

by Boutros Boutros Ghali

As many of you may have noticed, the Reckless Recap has been a bit more reckless in the last few days. This is because with the Cubs clinching that shot at the Wild Card, it's just been more fun to do some different things here in the column. I will get back to a normal level of recap when the postseason begins, but for now, I'm sticking with some recklessness.

The theme this week was WCRP in Cincinnati (Win Cubs RePeat) and thus, the final game recap will be a musical journey as if I were a disc jockey from the famed radio station. Just imagine me as Johnny Fever please and not Les Nessman.

Obviously, that is the theme song to the Reds season as winning seems to have left this team a while ago. Since then, they have been trying to find themselves through a rookie pitching staff, which allowed the Cubs to dominate them for three straight games.

In this one, it was John Lamb on the bump. The bleach blonde Lamb of a Red God cruised through the first two innings with little trouble, only seeing seven batters. But in the third inning, things turned on the rocker and these Cubs were made for walking

The Cubs had seen enough of the little Lamb and they decided to make the kid throw to them. Addison Russell did not get the pitches to hit and walked to first. With Russell on base, The Fowl One went for a walk as well.

Then it was time for Action Jackson to take his second shot at the Lamb. Jackson was coming off a 5 RBI game and apparently was not ready to quit. Action Jackson dropped a three run bomb in the third inning to put the Cubs on top. Jackson has been a stone cold Reds killer and since the Cubs recently showed their love of queens, set your stereo to 11 and rock out with Killer Queen by Queen.

Lamb made it through the fourth inning, but in the fifth, the young starter got the hook after giving up a single to Fowler, a walk to Jackson, and then getting ripped by Rizzo for a ground rule double. The Reds went with Badenhop, but he could not keep the handsome youngsters from swing dancing all over the field and gave up a single to Deno that scored Jackson from third. Cubs 5-Reds 0.

Lamb got the hook, but the Hook still can't get their picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone.

On the Cubs mound, Jason Hammel went five and gave up five hits, but no runs. Maddon yanks Hammel quick most of the time these days, but the Cubs starter did end up with the win despite the bullpen getting a little loose with in the late innings. Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers know what it's like to bust loose and it's time to spin the next track on the WCRP radio.

The Reds scored 3 runs in the 7th inning for the only real threat of the entire series. Fernando, Richard, and Cahill made for a weak showing. I'm sure this power trio wished they could go underground like this awesome power trio.

In the end, it was too little, too late and the Cubs won their 4th straight game and their 94th victory of the season. It's on to Milwaukee for the last three games of the season and then the Wild Card. We'll leave you with this little rocker and say good by to WCRP in Cincinnati.

That's your reckless recap. Go Cubs!
