Reckless Recaps: 10/4/15 Cubs 3/Brewers 1 "Just Getting Started"

by Boutros Boutros Ghali

Dan Haren ended the regular season for the Cubs and quite possibly his career. The pitcher the Cubs picked up in a trade halfway through the season has always maintained it would be his final season pitching. On Sunday, he got to walk off in the most satisfying way.

Haren has not been great for the Cubs, but his game did pick up as the season was winding down. His last start was one he could be proud of as he went six innings and only gave up one run and one walk to get the final win of the season for the Cubs and put them at 97 for the season.

Much like Haren, the Cubs won without really being all that spectacular for the game. All three of their runs came in the first inning against the comedian Jorge Lopez.

Lopez was better in the first pitch in Dodger Stadium than he was against the first batter in Miller Park. J-Lo worked the body of Janet Jackson with a nasty pitch to put the first batter on base. Jackson stole second base when Maldonado let the ball get away from him despite J-Lo singing hold it, don't drop it.

Big Boss Cogg worked the walk and Kris Bryant did the same. The Rookie of the Year got stuck on 99 RBI, but he did not let it influence his approach at the plate as he took the walk instead of trying to force a hit.

Anthony Rizzo was not stuck on 99 RBI because he had bases loaded when he bounced a ball past first baseman Lind. Two scored on the hit and Plunk ended the season with 101 runs batted in.

The Original Youngster hit into a double play in the next at-bat so he did not get an RBI, but the Cubs did score again. After the first inning, the Cubs had a 3-0 lead.

It's good that the handsome youngsters got those runs early, because they did not score again in the game. Dan Haren took over and despite a scary third inning, he kept the game under control for the Cubs win.

The Pirates had two on thanks to a single and a walk. Shane Petersen ripped a ball over Denorfia's head in left field that bounced for a ground rule double. The Pirates scored one, but famous Muppet, Scooter Gennett, was forced to stop at third base.

Haren got out of the inning on a great play by Starlin Castro at first base. Adam Lind ripped the ball just over first base and Rizzo was able to knock it down, but not pick it up. Castro was backing up on the play and was able to pick it up and make the toss to Haren on first to get the batter. Cubs 3/Brewers 1.

Haren gave up a leadoff double to Krash Davis in the fourth inning, but he was stranded and the Brewers never threatened again in the game. Haren completed his six innings and then Grimmlock, Manny Ramirez, and Wooderson finished out the last three innings without giving up a run.

Cubs win their 97th game, which amazingly is only good for third place in the Central Division of the NL despite it being better than every other team in the major leagues. The Pirates defeated the Reds in their game to maintain the home Wild Card game with 98 wins and the hated Cardinals had 100 wins on the nose.

Though this was the last game of the regular season and the Cubs were third place in their division, they are just getting started. The Wild Card game is scheduled for Wednesday night in Pittsburgh and we will get to see Jake Arrieta match up against Gerrit Cole in what should be an epic pitcher's duel.

That's the Reckless Recap. We will be back with another recap on Thursday and every other game the Cubs win throughout the postseason and playoffs. Go Cubs.
