Reckless Recap: 9/23/15 Cubs 1/Brewers 4 "Third Game Blues"

by Boutros Boutros Ghali

This is really a reckless recap since this game happened two days ago and I'm just now trying to get it recapped before the Cubs/Pirates game starts in a few minutes.

Kyle Hendricks was on the bump versus Zach Davies. Davies is a rookie who just got called up and sometimes that means he won't have good stuff and the hitters can tee off on him, other times it means the hitters have no book on him to have an idea on what pitches are coming. This game was the latter.

The Handsome Youngsters were unable to get anything going against Davies in this game. In total, there were only 4 hits and the one run did not even come against Davies. For his six innings, the Cubs were scoreless.

Hendricks was looking good in this game too, despite getting the loss. He had a perfect game going into the fifth inning. And let's face it, five perfect innings is basically a perfect game for a guy who usually only pitches five innings.

Anyway, he got the first two outs in the inning before finally giving up a baserunner. Segura and Sardine Ass hit back to back singles. Sardine Ass drove in Segura after the short stop had stolen second base to get in scoring position. Cubs 0-Brewers 1.

Hendricks only gave up the one run and made it through six innings for the loss because the Handsome Youngsters were not up to the task of hitting Davies on this night.

The lone bright spot for the Cubs was Jorge Soler going deep yet again. The guy is on a power streak right now. We all knew that Soler was a slugger, but it seems like the injuries he's sustained this year have kept that bat weak. It looks like that might all be behind him now because he is locked in lately and at the perfect time.

The Cubs now have 9 batters with double digits in home runs. I don't know if you can count or if you understand baseball positions, but that's an entire team of double digit home runs. It's kinda good.

Anyway, the Cubs win another series by taking the first two games and dropping the third. It is a little bit of a bummer, but we have to remember that a series win is a series win. As long as the Cubs do that all the time, it's going to be some good baseball for awhile.

Lester faces off against Cole in a few minutes. The Cubs are currently 3.5 games behind the Pirates and could possibly clinch the second wild card this game. If they can sweep, they could be in good position to take over the first wild card position with the Pirates playing a rough stretch with seven vs the Cubs and the Cards back to back.

That's the Reckless Recap. Go Cubs!
